KARONGA, Malawi— Nyasa Big Bullets' head coach blamed complacency for his team's 2-1 defeat against Karonga United on Sunday, extending their inconsistent run in the 2024 league, writes Pemphero Musowa.
The home team, Karonga United, nicknamed "Ingwina's," came from behind to secure a valuable win against the 2023 champions.
Bullets opened the scoring through Babatunde Adopoje in the 28th minute. Saulos Moyo equalized for Karonga in first-half stoppage time. Blessings Mlalilino netted the winner in the second half, beating Bullets' offside trap.
In a post-match interview, Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa questioned the referee's decision on Karonga's second goal, suspecting it was offside.
"I'm not a referee, maybe I have to watch it again, but I thought otherwise," Pasuwa said.
Acknowledging the team's recent struggles, Pasuwa added, "We are in difficult times where we are not stable. We need to do more to have results. The confidence in the boys has gone down."
Karonga's assistant head coach, Christopher Chinkwita, described the win as a tactical success and a morale boost for the team and supporters.
