Bullets Secure Late 1-0 Victory Against Tigers in Thrilling TNM Super League Match
In another TNM Super League game played on Thursday, Kamuzu Barracks secured a 1-0 victory against Ekwendeni Hammers.
BLANTYRE, Malawi - In a thrilling encounter between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Waka Waka Tigers, it was the Bullets who emerged victorious with a late goal, securing a 1-0 win in the 2023 TNM Super League match played at Kamuzu Stadium on Thursday, September 21, writes Happy Valirani.
Yamikani Fodya for Bullets scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the 88th minute.
The penalty was awarded after Tigers defender Kelvin Banda handled the ball inside the box. Fodya's goal proved to be the difference, earning the Bullets the much-needed three points.
Both teams fought fiercely throughout the match, with Tigers producing an impressive display of football in the first half.
However, they were unable to find the back of the net. Bullets also had their fair share of missed opportunities in the second half, with Anthony Mfune failing to convert two clear chances.
The victory for Bullets moves them to the top of the league table standings, level on 40 points with the second-placed Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
Bullets have a superior goal difference and have played two games less than both Wanderers and third-placed Chitipa, who have each played 21 games.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Coach, Calisto Pasuwa, expressed the importance of the three points for his team.
He acknowledged the fatigue in his players, stating, "We are looking tired, as you can see from the type of play in our boys today. We couldn't change the pace on the attacking third; at times we play with tempo where we slow down and we pick it up, but that didn't happen today. But the good thing is that we have managed to collect the three points. We are trying to rotate the players so that we rest the others."
Mighty Waka Waka Tigers, on the other hand, remain in 11th place with 27 points. Despite the defeat, the Tigers' coach, Christopher Nyambose, praised his team's performance, particularly in the first half.
He admitted that missed opportunities cost them the game but commended his players for their efforts.
"We have played well; we missed some chances in the first half that could have helped us finish the game. Unfortunately, we didn't utilise them. In the second half, we struggled in terms of attacking, especially in the final third because our opponents pinned us. But I have to thank my players for putting on a great performance. We managed to hold the Bullets until the dying minutes of the game when we conceded a goal. We are now looking forward to the next games," said Nyambose.
