The Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) has warned that more blackouts are likely in the coming days due to an emergency outage at Nkula B Power Station from December 15 to 19, 2022.
Malawi: The Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) has warned that more blackouts are likely in the coming days due to an emergency outage at Nkula B Power Station from December 15 to 19, 2022, writes Comfort Bulangete.
According to a statement by EGENCO, the process will result in the loss of 100 Mega Watts from the national grid.
The statement, dated November 13, 2022, says the repair work will necessitate the complete shutdown of the Nkula B Power Station, as well as the dewatering of the tunnel and penstocks, in order to provide a safe working environment for the maintenance team.
The statement further says Nkula B Power Station has one tunnel that supplies water to five machines, and that, because the bypass valve failed due to high pressure, the tunnel must be dewatered to avoid flooding the station; as a result, five machines will be shut down to facilitate dewatering and repair.
