BMEC Invests K4.5M in Internship Program
The program aims to provide sustainable skills training to drive economic growth.
BLANTYRE, Malawi-The Business Management Education Center (BMEC), a UK-based examination board, has invested K4.5 million in an internship program that will pay 10 students K100,000 per month for six months to intern at firms like TEVETA and ECAM, writes Gift Kaimira.
Winston Bergi, BMEC's Country Coordinator, announced the 4.5 million Kwacha pilot program investment at a press conference Friday at TEVETA's Blantyre offices.
The program aims to provide sustainable skills training to drive economic growth.
"This is a major support; it will contribute positively to human resource development through sustainable skills training and development, spearheading the country's production and export-led social and economic growth," said Conceptor Kachoka, TEVETA's Regional Manager for the South.
Kachoka challenged the student interns to perform their best during the paid internships.
George Khaki of the Employers Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAM) urged employers to respect internship agreements. ECAM plans to work with TEVETA to get employers to sign memorandums of understanding for valuable intern experiences.
