Malawi: Blue Star Consultancy has begun bridging the gap in the tourism and hospitality industry by providing training to the youths and finding them employment opportunities, writes Judgment Katika.
The company's executive director, Agrippa Mkandawire, said that their goal is to improve the industry and make it a financial backbone for the country.
"We want Malawi to be recognized internationally in terms of expertise and designation," he said.
"Because a lot of people view this industry as one for those who are not educated. So we want to change that concept of thinking."
The company plans to introduce a new product - a travel agency - to sell travel tickets and tour packages.
Mkandawire also said that they have already trained 2,000 youths and found them employment opportunities both in Malawi and abroad.
He urged the government to provide financial support to help train and create jobs for more youths, in line with the Tonse Alliance's manifesto to create 1,000,000 jobs for the youth.
One of Blue Star's students, Rapheal Honda, praised the consultancy for helping him land a job at the Ufulu Garden Hotel in Lilongwe.
He encouraged other youths who are sitting at home to go and train in tourism and hospitality at Blue Star consultancy.
Blue Star Consultancy of Tourism and Hospitality was founded in 2017 with the goal of promoting the tourism industry and providing training and professional opportunities for the youth.
