Bishop Urges Unity Among Catholic Women, Applauds Their Contributions
During his speech, Bishop Chaima expressed satisfaction with the women's work and commended their unity in organising such a significant event.
Zomba, Malawi – In a heartfelt address at the opening of the Catholic Women Organization Annual General Meeting (AGM), Bishop Alfred Chaima of the Zomba Diocese urged women in the church to prioritise collaboration over competition, writes Peter Davieson.
The AGM was convened at the Zomba Cathedral Church in the district.
During his speech, Bishop Chaima expressed satisfaction with the women's work and commended their unity in organising such a significant event.
He also extended his best wishes for the AGM and highlighted the upcoming Diocesan-level Golden Jubilee celebration of the Catholic Women Organisation in Malawi.
"I am wishing them success in the AGM and a successful celebration at the Diocese level of the Golden Jubilee of the existence of Catholic Women Organization in Malawi, so I am urging them to continue to make their contributions to the growth of the church in the Diocese of Zomba," Bishop Chaima said.
Commenting on the AGM's agenda, Christina Lakiyoni, Chair Lady for the Catholic Women Organisation in Zomba, hinted at the critical issues they would be discussing.
She emphasised that these discussions had the potential to significantly impact women's lives.
"We will start with the retreat, and we have topics about resource mobilization, entrepreneurship—you know, for the diocese to move on, we need funds and resources, so we want to shape them on how best they can get resources and how they can keep the resources," Lakiyoni stated.
Lakiyoni also called upon the priests and the newly elected Bishop to offer their support in all aspects of women's lives and guide them to spiritual, mental, and physical growth.
The women of the Zomba Diocese appeared enthusiastic about the prospect of working together and contributing to the church's development.
The Catholic Women Organization's AGM promises to be a platform where women can learn, collaborate, and make meaningful contributions to the growth of the church.
