LILONGWE, Malawi - Mitundu Baptist FC has clinched the prestigious FAM MOTTO title for the first time following their 1-0 victory over fourth place Green Rangers FC at Milonde ground on Wednesday, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
Baptist has now amassed 47 points from 21 games with a game in hand as they continue showing the intent of winning the race, indicating their strong desire to with the title, a development Pastor Maclean Chimweneje says the team "fought the good fight."
"I trusted the technical panel, players as well as our faithful supporters and the preparations we go through as a team," he said.
"I trust everyone like they trusted me to achieve our goal together as one. It was a blessing to come out with a win today."
According to Chimwenje the team deserved to win against Green Rangers after "creating many chances, controlling the match, and managing to score," nothing that he was aware before the match of the strengths and weaknesses of the Rangers, and as a team was able to use them well.
Mitundu Baptist will now face Chisomo Academy in their last match of the season which is more like a dead rubber for them as the title has been decided already as three top teams; Mitundu Baptist FC, Chatoloma ADMARC FC, and Chisomo Academy FC will be promoted to Chipiku premier league.
