KARONGA, Malawi — Baka City finally tasted victory in the Malawi Super League on Saturday, defeating Bangwe All Stars 2-0 at Karonga Stadium in their 11th match of the season, writes Lusekero Mhango.
After a challenging start that saw them earn just four draws in their first 10 games, Baka City broke through with second-half goals from Jeffrey Mwakyembe and Amon Mwakitalu.
The match turned in Baka City's favor following a key substitution early in the second half. Gule Mwaisope, replacing the injured Gift Kasambala, made an immediate impact. '
In the 51st minute, Mwaisope delivered a cross that Mwakyembe volleyed home, opening the scoring.
Mwakitalu doubled the lead nine minutes later, latching onto Joseph Mwambungu's through ball and finishing past Bangwe goalkeeper Precious Mulotiwa.
Bangwe All Stars pressed late, but Baka City goalkeeper Abraham Mwandenga made several crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet.
"It's been a challenging start, but today we showed resilience and took our chances," said Baka City coach Kondwani Mwalweni.
Bangwe coach Rogers Yasin lamented his team's missed opportunities: "Goals change and win matches, and today we did not take our opportunities while our opponent did."
The win lifts Baka City to 15th place in the league, level on seven points with Bangwe All Stars after 11 matches.
