Baka City Edges Ndirande Stars 1-0 in FDH Bank Cup
Baka City will face the winner of the match between FOMO FC and Creck Sporting Club in the next round.
BLANTYRE, Malawi — Baka City advanced to the round of 16 in the FDH Bank Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ndirande Stars on Saturday at Mpira stadium, writes Happy Valirani.
Geofrey Mwakyembe's 16th-minute goal proved decisive in the tightly contested round of 32 match.
Despite creating multiple scoring opportunities, both teams struggled to find the net. Ndirande Stars' Aubrey Manford missed a penalty in the 60th minute after being fouled in the box.
Baka City will face the winner of the match between FOMO FC and Creck Sporting Club in the next round.
Kondwani Mwalweni, Baka City's head coach, credited the team's experience for the win.
"It was a tough game, Ndirande Stars gave us a tough game, but our experience has really helped us," Mwalweni said. "We are looking forward to the next game."
Ndirande Stars' head coach, Joseph Semu, lamented his team's missed opportunities.
"We created many chances that we could have scored more goals, but lack of composure and experience upfront is what has let us down," Semu said.
He added that the team needs to recruit experienced strikers to improve their scoring.
