"Art Can Pay" Fundraising Provides School Uniforms for 40 Needy Students in Chinsapo, Lilongwe
This was made possible through their "Art Can Pay" fundraising project, which aimed to raise funds to provide school uniforms to needy students.
LILONGWE, Malawi - The Chinsapo Arts Theatre in Lilongwe has successfully enabled 40 students in the Chinsapo area to attend school without challenges, writes Catherine Tembo.
This was made possible through their "Art Can Pay" fundraising project, which aimed to raise funds to provide school uniforms to needy students.
The beneficiaries are students from various schools in the Chinsapo zone, including Kakule Primary School, Chinkhandwe Primary School, Chisapo Primary School, and Nguluwe Primary School.
Robert Chimtolo, a representative for Chinsapo Arts Theatre, explained that the initiative was born out of the realisation of the challenges faced by needy students, especially when they lack proper school uniforms.
This prompted the idea of fundraising to address this issue.
Chimtolo acknowledged that although the amount of money raised was not enough to reach their initial goal of 80 students, they decided to start with the available funds, recognising that even a small effort could make a significant difference in the lives of these children.
He emphasized that as the government promotes the Malawi 2063 vision, which includes improving access to quality education, their group aims to contribute to the vision's implementation through art.
"Our goal was to reach about 80 students, but due to the funds that we were able to raise, we only managed to reach half of that number," Chimtolo explained.
He called on well-wishers and potential donors to assist them financially so that they could extend their support to more needy students, further promoting education in the country.
Laston Chitimbe, Chairperson for Chisapo Zone, praised the Chinsapo Arts Theatre for their initiative, highlighting the valuable role of young people in the development of the nation.
He commended the vibrant, young individuals for their efforts in assisting needy students and contributing to the betterment of their community.
