Andiamo Technical College Students Urged to Stay Focused on Skills Development
The initiative is seen as a significant step towards addressing youth unemployment and skills gaps in Malawi.
BALAKA, Malawi — Officials from the Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM) and the Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA) have called on students at Andiamo Technical College's Ulongwe mobile center to remain focused and strive for excellence in their vocational training, writes Moses Thole.
The appeal came during an orientation session for newly enrolled students at the campus in Balaka district on Thursday.
The students are undergoing intensive training in various disciplines, including Welding and Fabrication, Electrical Installation, and Carpentry and Joinery.
"We believe that the students will adhere to all regulations set by TEVETA throughout their period of study," said Thandie Nyirenda, Assistant Project Coordinator for CADECOM.
"It's crucial for them to maintain focus until they become experts in their chosen skills."
The Andiamo Technical College - Ulongwe mobile center is part of the "Hope for the Youth Project," aimed at providing vocational skills to young people in Malawi.
Currently, 89 students are enrolled in the intensive vocational skills program at the institution.
The initiative is seen as a significant step towards addressing youth unemployment and skills gaps in Malawi.
By offering practical, hands-on training in high-demand trades, the program aims to equip young people with the tools they need to secure employment or start their own businesses.
