Ana Onse Mpata Umodzi Organization Supports Inclusive Education in Dowa
Dowa district currently hosts six resource centres aimed at providing education and training to children with various disabilities.
Dowa, Malawi - Ana Onse Mpata Umodzi organization has officially handed over a classroom block to Mponela Resource Centre at Mponela Teachers Development Center in Dowa district, writes Philord Magalasi.
During the handover on Friday, October 20, 2023, the organization called on parents to allow their disabled children to access education.
The Executive Director of the organization, Thandi Chirwa, stressed the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders in maintaining the classroom block to fulfill its intended purpose of inclusive education, in line with Malawi's 2063 vision.
Peter Nsendema, Chief Education Officer in the Department of Inclusive Education, expressed gratitude to the organization for its timely support.
He noted that the support would contribute to improving the quality of education for students with special needs.
Nsendema also called on well-wishers across the country to follow Ana Onse Mpata Umodzi's example, as the ministry alone cannot provide all the necessary services.
Linda Tembo, one of the teachers at the resource center, commended the organization for its support.
She mentioned that the newly constructed classroom would help address mobility challenges for children with special needs, as it has been designed with their needs in mind.
The resource center is expected to benefit 104 children with various disabilities from nineteen schools around the Mponela Zone.
The construction of the facility was funded with nine million kwacha from the organization.
