AllAfrica to Honor Media Excellence at Upcoming Summit in Nairobi

NAIROBI, Kenya - AllAfrica will present its 2024 Media Excellence Awards during the upcoming AllAfrica Media Leaders' Summit in Nairobi, recognizing exceptional journalism and leadership across the African continent, writes Winston Mwale.
The summit, taking place May 8-10 under the theme "Re-engineering African Media in Times of Critical Transformation," brings together media leaders, policymakers, activists and academics to discuss the future of African media.
AllAfrica Co-Founder and Executive Chairman Amadou Mahtar Ba emphasized the importance of celebrating media excellence to uphold high journalistic standards that inform the public and hold leaders accountable.
"We believe celebrating excellence in media and African development is of utmost importance to ensure the continuity of high-quality journalism and impactful contributions to the prosperity of our continent," Ba said.
Award categories include the AllAfrica Titan Leadership Award for exceptional service in economic transformation and human development, as well as Lifetime Achievement Awards for 10 deserving media leaders from seven African countries.
Other honors include the AllAfrica and University of Nairobi Wangari Maathai Young Journalist Award for best use of digital tools in youth engagement, and awards from the African Development Bank, African Export-Import Bank and African Capacity Building Foundation recognizing reporting excellence on development, regional integration and capacity building.
The top three finalists in the AllAfrica and ONE Campaign Newsroom Innovation Youth Challenge will also be awarded for innovative ways to engage African youth in newsrooms.
The winners will be celebrated at a gala dinner and awards ceremony on May 9 at the Glee Hotel in Nairobi.
"Media's critical role is to advance African development across sectors through dissemination of valuable information that serves to inform the public and hold leaders accountable," Ba said, inviting African leaders to elevate these vital efforts.
