All Set for Thrilling Northern Region Nyasa Capital Finance Cup Finals
Baka City defeated Mzimba United 3-0 to reach the finals, while their neighbours Iponga FC ousted Ekwaiweni Tafika Sports 2-0.
KARONGA, Malawi - The Northern Region Football Association is set to conclude the Nyasa Capital Finance Cup this Sunday, December 17, where Karonga based teams Baka City and Iponga FC will face off in an exciting encounter at Mzuzu Stadium, writes Victor Musongole.
Baka City defeated Mzimba United 3-0 to reach the finals, while their neighbours Iponga FC ousted Ekwaiweni Tafika Sports 2-0.
The Simso Innobuild League champions Baka City will look to set a new record by winning both the league and cup after previous winners failed to capture the double. Iponga FC aims to prove they are one of the toughest teams in the region.
"We have all it takes to get the cup this Sunday. People should expect an exciting final," Baka City coach Davie Muyombe said.
Iponga FC head coach Edwin Kaonga says his side is ready to finish the season on a high note after a good run in other cups this season.
"We have a chance to grab this cup with the current crop of players. We are surely getting the cup this Sunday," Kaonga said confidently.
The third place match will be between Mzimba United and Ekwaiweni Tafika Sports Academy on Saturday, December 16.
The past three seasons, the cup has seen new semifinalists, proving to be one of the most competitive tournaments in the northern region.
The champion will take home over 1.6 million kwacha (about $2,000). Mayamiko Stars are the previous cup winners.
Nyasa Capital Finance is sponsoring the cup with 23.3 million kwacha (about $30,000) per region, totaling 70 million kwacha (about $90,000) for all three regions.
