Malawi: Airtel Malawi on September 14, 2022, launched a campaign in Lilongwe called zili mwa ife worth K100 million, with the goal of motivating people to do extraordinary things in the community.
During the launch, Airtel Malawi Managing Director Charles Kamoto stated that the project will recognise individuals who have contributed to the transformation of society.
He stated that the campaign will last three months and that Airtel has set aside 40 million of the 100 million that will be awarded to people whose works will be judged.
"We will be recognising and celebrating Malawians who have done extraordinary things to uplift the lives of people in their communities; to submit a story, call 460 or WhatsApp at +265994460460," he explained.
At the ceremony, Airtel also presented 10 million kwacha to Dumisani Kaliati for developing drones to transport drugs to hard-to-reach areas in Kasungu District, and 13 million kwacha to Temwani Chilenga, a primary school teacher who has helped over 95 homeless and orphaned children access education by providing uniforms and fresh food for lunch grown at her home.
"I want to applaud Airtel Malawi for this initiative because it will encourage people to continue carrying out works meant to uplift their communities," Kaliyati said.
"I now train young people in building drones and later identify remote communities that are difficult to reach, so I will use part of the money to buy modern things to use in this."
The deadline for receiving submissions is December 31, 2022.
