Airtel Malawi Donates MK2.5 Million Worth of Teaching and Learning Materials to Salima LEA School
Airtel's Head of Brands, PR, and CSR, Norah Chavula-Chirwa, spoke passionately about the company's commitment to supporting its adopted schools.
SALIMA, Malawi— In a concerted effort to bolster education in the country, Airtel Malawi demonstrated its commitment by donating teaching and learning materials worth MK2.5 million to Salima LEA School, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
The generous contribution, commemorating World Literacy Day, which took place on September 8th earlier this month, underscores Airtel's dedication to improving education access and quality.
Airtel's Head of Brands, PR, and CSR, Norah Chavula-Chirwa, spoke passionately about the company's commitment to supporting its adopted schools.
She revealed that the donation was initiated by Airtel Malawi staff members who joined forces to provide new books, enhancing the resources available to support the adopted school's library.
Chavula-Chirwa detailed the contents of the donation, which encompassed Braille materials to cater to visually impaired students and a wide array of books spanning standards 1 to 8.
She emphasised the critical importance of adequate learning resources, particularly in primary schools, where many institutions face resource shortages that can impede students' knowledge acquisition.
"Most schools, especially in primary education, lack the necessary resources for effective learning. This delay in acquiring essential reading skills can hinder a student's overall educational progress. Airtel's donation from its dedicated staff members aims to bridge this resource gap and underscores our ongoing commitment to support the education sector in Malawi, both at the primary and secondary levels," Chavula-Chirwa stated.
Nathan Sambo, the Headmaster of Salima LEA, expressed profound gratitude for Airtel's benevolent gesture and encouraged other organisations to follow suit.
He highlighted the multifaceted impact of the donation, stressing that it would address several constraints currently facing the school.
"We are immensely grateful to Airtel for this generous donation. Airtel has been a steadfast supporter of our institution since 2010, contributing not only books but also constructing school blocks and providing desks for our students. We commend them for their unwavering efforts and extend our call to other organisations to emulate their philanthropic example," Sambo remarked.
This substantial donation, worth over MK2.3 million, follows a similar act of benevolence at Airtel's other adopted school, Masenjere Primary in Nsanje, in mid-August.
These initiatives demonstrate Airtel Malawi's resolute commitment to advancing education and literacy and nurturing a brighter future for Malawi's youth. 📚🏫 #AirtelMalawi #EducationEmpowerment 🇲🇼
