Malawi: Through its campaign, ZiliMwaIfe, Airtel Malawi has awarded six Malawians K15.5 million in recognition of their efforts to improve lives and communities throughout the nation, writes Moses Nyirenda.
Kondwani Ngwira, Kenston Mhango, Mark Christopher, Protazio Jedidia, Chimwemwe Mwenefumbo, and John Emmanuel are the recipients.
"We launched ZiliMwaife campaign to allow Malawians share the stories of others who are doing extraordinary things for their communities," said Airtel Malawi Marketing Director, Thokozani Sande. "After asking Malawians to share their stories we set aside K40 million to award those whose stories were reviewed, shortlisted, and verified."
The campaign, according to Sande, aims to recognize and support Malawians who work to improve lives and communities in original ways using their own resources and expertise.
Kondwani Ngwira thanked Airtel Malawi for the award after receiving K3 million to build youth capacity in the nation to produce goods like soap and cement locally and launch small businesses.
"I am planning to help university graduates open up factories," he said.
"With this initiative, we are starting with cooking oil making, therefore the money I have won will be given to the students to grow sunflowers which will be used in the manufacturing of the cooking oil."
Additionally, Sande disclosed that Airtel Malawi has K24.5 million left over, which will be distributed to additional exceptional Malawians in the next phase of the ZiliMwaIfe campaign.
