Airtel Hikes Chezani Voice, Data Bundles by 15-20%
Operational costs like electricity and diesel “have significantly increased the cost of doing business for Airtel Malawi,” the company said.
LILONGWE, Malawi - Airtel Malawi Plc has increased prices for its Chezani Voice and Data bundles by 15-20%, respectively, effective December 5, 2023, the mobile carrier announced Saturday, writes Moses Nyirenda.
In a statement, Airtel said the adjustment follows “recent developments in macro-economic factors” including a 64% cumulative devaluation of the kwacha since June and an 18% hike in electricity tariffs in September.
Diesel prices also rose by 42.4% recently.
“The revision of the bundle prices would help Airtel Malawi sustain its operations in the country,” the statement said.
“It is difficult for the company to sustain operations with the current prices.”
Operational costs like electricity and diesel “have significantly increased the cost of doing business for Airtel Malawi,” the company said.
The new prices have been approved by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority. Specifics on the new bundle rates were not immediately released.
“At this level of cost escalation, it is unsustainable to continue at the current price levels,” Airtel said.
“It is important that Airtel continues to be sustainable so that it can further invest in the network and ensure better service delivery to its customers.”
