Agilitee rolls out full electric delivery scooters on large scale in South Africa
Following a test run in May of this year, the EV behemoth is set to ramp up deliveries in Zimbabwe on September 1st, 2022.
South Africa: Agilitee, the world's first black-owned electric vehicle manufacturer, has finally begun to roll out its full electric delivery scooters on a large scale in South Africa, writes Bonisile Makhubu.
Since last year, the company has been drip-feeding its product to the market, and it has now decided to launch the bikes on a large scale.
The scooter was one of the products on display at the prestigious company launch last May in Johannesburg.
Following a test run in May of this year, the EV behemoth is set to ramp up deliveries in Zimbabwe on September 1st, 2022.
There are plans to expand the products to the rest of Africa, including Uganda and Kenya.
The founder announced on his social media platforms that the rollout has begun and that it will include Africa's first AI Helmet.
The electric scooter on the market is the Agilitee - Loadex, which has a range of 70 kilometres per charge. The EV behemoth employs swapping machines, which enable owners to swap the loadex removable batteries in 60 seconds and continue with deliveries.
Agilitee Loadex users receive free battery swaps, which is a significant saving for both drivers and owners.
Delivery scooters in South Africa spend between R1,000 and R1,500 per week on petrol, which equates to R4,000 to R6,000 per month in profit for the drivers and owners.
Agilitee plans to deploy 20,000 delivery scooters in Africa by Christmas.
In an interview with this publication, the billionaire founder stated that no one will do what Agilitee does.
“We are here to end poverty, imagine what used to be R6000 petrol cost per month in South Africa for the delivery scooters will now become profit that will allow the drivers to get more scooters and grow the business. God is doing a new thing in Africa, the time has come for Africa to rise and I am humbled that God chose village people like us to spearhead the charge. Agilitee puts purpose over profit, it’s time Africa has a Savior that cares about change more than profit,” said Dr Lamba.
Agilitee is currently preparing for an IPO on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, in which the company plans to raise $2 billion by selling 10% of its stock to investors.
Dr Lamba owns 77.5% of Agilitee and is the company's largest shareholder, making him the richest person in South Africa and the second richest man in Africa, with a net worth of $15 billion.
