African Nations to Address Whistleblower Protections at Anti-Corruption Summit
As the continent continues its push for transparency and accountability, the summit represents a significant step in addressing one of the most critical aspects of fighting corruption.
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia— Africa's fight against corruption takes center stage as the continent prepares for the 8th African Anti-Corruption Dialogue, scheduled for July 9-10, 2024, writes Nkeletsang Morapedi.
The event, themed "Effective Whistleblowers Protection Mechanism: A Critical Tool in the Fight Against Corruption," aims to strengthen safeguards for those who expose wrongdoing.
This year's dialogue coincides with the 20th anniversary of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC).
A recent review of the convention highlighted ongoing challenges, particularly the lack of adequate whistleblower protection across member states.
The gathering is considered critical for reinforcing the role of whistleblowers in the continent's anti-corruption efforts.
It brings together key stakeholders to address this persistent issue.
The dialogue is expected to produce recommendations for improving whistleblower protections throughout Africa, building on two decades of anti-corruption initiatives under the AUCPCC.
As the continent continues its push for transparency and accountability, the summit represents a significant step in addressing one of the most critical aspects of fighting corruption.
