Action for Progress Donates Tri-Cycles to Persons with Disabilities
To date, Action for Progress has donated 3,000 tri-cycles and Bibles across Malawi, significantly impacting the lives of many individuals with disabilities.
SALIMA, Malawi— Action for Progress, a developmental arm of the Church of Christ, donated 24 tri-cycles to individuals with disabilities in Salima District on Friday, writes Joseph Chalera.
The initiative aims to improve mobility and ensure that beneficiaries can participate more fully in community activities.
During the handover ceremony at the Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA) offices, Administrative Officer Grivin Kasalika emphasized the urgent need for mobility devices.
"We saw the need for persons with disabilities who have been failing to participate in community activities, such as church, school, and business," Kasalika stated.
"We hope that these devices will help them contribute to the development of this country."
George Chiusiwa, Director General of MACODA, praised the organization for its support.
"These people have been failing to move from one place to another, which means they were unable to do things on their own," Chiusiwa explained.
"Now that they have received these tri-cycles, they will be able to go to school, church, and markets, which will help uplift their lives."
Chiusiwa expressed gratitude for the timely donation, noting that the council cannot provide all necessary resources for persons with disabilities.
"The coming in of this partner has reduced the burden on our shoulders," he said.
He urged other organizations to follow Action for Progress's example, highlighting that the government alone cannot meet all the needs of vulnerable individuals.
Beneficiary Chikondi Samson shared his excitement about receiving a tri-cycle.
"I was unable to go to school because I had no transport, but this tri-cycle will help me achieve my goal," Samson said.
"I am very thankful to Action for Progress for giving me this device."
