LILONGWE, Malawi— Action Aid Malawi launched its 2024-2028 country strategy on Thursday, focusing on "transforming systems for social justice", writes Wendi Mkandawire.
Grace Mkupu, Action Aid Malawi board chairperson, outlined three main areas of the strategy: promoting rights for women, girls and youths; increasing women's representation in decision-making positions; and mitigating climate change impacts while enhancing wealth creation among women and young people.
The organization has budgeted K38 billion for the four-year strategy.
"We give women money to help with their businesses," Mkupu said.
"We also have programs where we take girls back to school."
Jean Sendeza, Minister of Gender, Disability and Social Welfare, said at the launch that Action Aid's strategy will help fill existing gaps in social services.
"This strategy will help promote rights for women and girls and encourage them to participate actively in politics in the 2025 general elections," Sendeza added.
