ACB Lifts Restrictions on UBR Recruitment
ACB lifts restrictions on 5 councils' UBR enumerator recruitment
Lilongwe, Malawi — The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has lifted the restrictions it previously issued on five district councils regarding the recruitment of Unified Beneficiary Registry (UBR) enumerators, writes Benson Kamonjola.
The ACB said its investigations into allegations of corruption in the recruitment process have found no evidence of prosecutable corrupt practises.
However, the ACB has recommended that the Kalonga district council restart its recruitment process, as its investigation found that the earlier recruitment process had irregularities.
The ACB had restricted the five district councils — Dowa, Ntchisi, Nkhotakota, Chiradzulu, and Kasungu—from proceeding with their recruitments following allegations of corruption.
The ACB's decision to lift the restrictions is a welcome development for the five district councils, which can now proceed with their recruitment.
However, the ACB's recommendation that the Kalonga district council restart its recruitment process is a reminder that the fight against corruption is ongoing.
The ACB's investigations into the UBR recruitment process are a clear indication that the bureau is committed to rooting out corruption in Malawi.
The bureau's work is essential to ensuring that public resources are used for the benefit of the people, not for the enrichment of a few individuals.
