Police in Chitipa have arrested six youths aged between 18-25 who are suspected of having been attacking people and stealing several items from them, writes Patricia Kayuni.
Chitipa, Malawi- Police in Chitipa have arrested six youths aged between 18-25 who are suspected of having been attacking people and stealing several items from them, writes Patricia Kayuni.
The police public relations officer for Chitipa, Sub Inspector Hope Nyalinyali, confirmed the arrests in an interview.
He said the arrests followed a series of complaints from people who had been mugged.
Nyalinyali said the police discovered that the youths were involved in the muggings because they were unemployed.
He warned people in the district to refrain from walking about at night and said the police were still searching for other suspects.
The six youths are currently in custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
Senior Chief Mwaulambia has expressed concern about the behaviour of the youths and has pleaded with the police to intensify their search for other suspects.
He has also advised the youth to find other ways to make money, such as farming.
