28-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide After Failing to Pay Off Debts in Rumphi, Malawi
After missing the deadline to pay back the money, Msiska left his home on Sunday, January 1st, 2023, and was found hanging at Golodi Hills bend number 4 in Rumphi four days later.
Malawi: A 28-year-old man, Success Msiska, has died by suicide after being unable to pay off debts, writes Tionge Hara.
Msiska reportedly took out a loan of MWK 1,678,000 from a microfinance organization called LISAP and other individuals.
After missing the deadline to pay back the money, Msiska left his home on Sunday, January 1st, 2023, and was found hanging at Golodi Hills bend number 4 in Rumphi four days later.
Medical officers from Livingstonia David Gordon Mission Hospital confirmed that Msiska's death was due to suffocation.
Sergeant Tuperiwe Kabwilo, a spokesperson for Rumphi Police, urged members of the community to manage their finances responsibly and seek advice from authorities before taking out loans.
Kabwilo also encouraged people to seek help and not resort to suicide in the face of financial difficulties.
Msiska was from Mwabanga village in the area of Traditional Authority Kachulu in Rumphi.
