Musa: : “We're doing everything possible to keep a girl child in school”

Malawi: The Ministry of Education has revealed plans to hire 2,605 female role model teachers for primary schools throughout the country, writes Bridget Mwanoka.

Principal Secretary Chikondano Musa stated that these role models will be selected from the communities surrounding the primary schools and will serve as motivators for female learners, with the aim of reducing dropout rates.

"We're doing everything possible to keep a girl child in school, and these role models will be great motivators," said Musa.

The role models will be recent school leavers and will be employed by a non-governmental organization for a two-year term, which is renewable.

The project is being jointly funded by the World Bank, the Global Partnership for Education, and the Malawi Government through the Malawi Education Reform Programme.

On Tuesday, January 31st, the Ministry of Education will lead the nation in celebrating International Education Day at Mbidzi Primary School in Lilongwe.
