Malawi: A 15 million US dollar Governance for Solutions (GFS) Project will begin in eight districts in Malawi, including Chikwawa, with the goal of finding solutions to challenges faced by different government sectors, writes Comfort Bulangete.
The project, which is being implemented by DAI Global and funded by USAID, will deploy District Liaison Officers (DLOs) to all eight councils.
The 5-year project will prioritize problems identified by communities and involve knowledgeable citizens who have not previously been engaged in problem-solving processes.
Dr Steve Snook, Chief of Party for DAI Global, stated during a briefing meeting on January 13, 2023, "Problems will be prioritized and solutions will be shaped through brainstorming; the community is going to define the problems to work on and the solutions to attempt."
Thokozile Munthali, Director of Planning and Development for Chikwawa district Council added, "The project will assist in addressing challenges that the district has been facing in different sectors hence grassroots people will be involved in identifying problems and getting to their solutions, hence improving the quality of service delivery in the district in there respective sectors."
The GFS Project will begin in Zomba and Mangochi immediately, followed by Mzimba, Mulanje, and Chikwawa in January 2023, and finally Karonga, Lilongwe and Dowa in May 2023.
