New Restoration Plan Calls for Proper Waste Management Practices
Lilongwe, Malawi — New Restoration Plan Malawi, through the Mzinda Uwale Project, is working collaboratively with city councils across the country to civic educate communities on proper waste management practices, writes Phillimon Backson.
The organisation’s Country Director George Chaima said this on 21 May 2026, noting that the project is engaging vendors operating in various markets to ensure proper waste disposal and management in order to reduce environmental pollution in urban areas.
He said poor waste management remains one of the major challenges affecting most cities and trading centres, contributing to the spread of diseases and environmental degradation.
The organisation is also working with various stakeholders to promote access to clean and safe water as a way of preventing water-borne diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea.
It is further encouraging communities to adopt good sanitation and hygiene practices to maintain clean surroundings and improve public health.
Chaima disclosed that the organisation plans to construct recreation centres as part of efforts to beautify cities and create safer public spaces, especially for young people.
The initiative is expected to complement government efforts aimed at promoting sustainable urban development and improving living conditions for residents across the country.
