MALAWI: Non-governmental organization, Darassunnah Foundation, on Friday donated a K5.5 million water facility to Salima Local Education Authority (SALEA) Primary School to promote sanitation and hygiene in the district.

The director for the organization, Ishmael Allan, said it is their pleasure to see students at the school have access to clean water.

He said, “It was so bad to find students having challenges to find access to running water both at the primary campus as well as at the Resource Center for the Blind, and that’s why we found it important to bring an initiative that can solve the problem.”

Salima District Chief Education Officer Annie Chizengo said, “The donation is timely just because it has come at a time when students need to avoid transmittable diseases like Covid-19 and hand to mouth that comes due to poor sanitation.”

Member of Parliament for Salima Central Gerald Kapiseni hailed the foundation for the initiative.

Darassunnah Foundation has been supporting various schools in the district and promised to continue supporting the school.
