MEC Official Monitors Voter Transfers As September Election Approaches
The commission continues monitoring registration centres throughout the country as election preparations intensify.
MZIMBA, Malawi — Malawi Electoral Commission Commissioner Richard Chapweteka expressed satisfaction with the ongoing voter transfer exercise during monitoring visits to centres in Mzimba district on Thursday, writes Victoria Yande.
"The process is running smoothly," Chapweteka said after touring several registration sites.
"We encourage citizens to use this three-day window to transfer their registration to where they'll be on voting day."
During a stop at Mzimba Prison, the commissioner found some inmates had forgotten their registration details.
He advised prisoners to contact family members by phone to retrieve the necessary information.
The transfers are part of preparations for Malawi's general elections scheduled for September 16, 2025.
MEC established the transfer period to ensure all eligible voters can participate in the upcoming polls regardless of relocation since initial registration.
