Malawi Education Minister Announces Teacher Recruitment Plan for 2025-26
The recruitment plan aligns with Malawi's broader development goals, including the country's vision 2063, officials said.

MZIMBA, Malawi—Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima announced plans to recruit and promote more primary and secondary school teachers in the 2025/26 fiscal year during a visit to Chankhomi Community Day Secondary School in Rumphi district on Thursday, writes Tionge Hara.
The initiative aims to address growing student populations as the government expands classroom infrastructure across the country.
"The government has allocated funds for teacher recruitment, which will commence after the budget is passed in parliament," Wirima said.
"This initiative is expected to improve the teacher-pupil ratio, enhance education quality, and provide better learning opportunities."
Rumphi District Commissioner Emmanuel Bulukutu highlighted specific challenges facing local schools, noting that many primary school teachers with degrees were transferred to secondary schools, creating staffing gaps in primary education.
"This move is necessary because many primary school teachers with degrees were transferred to secondary schools, leaving gaps in primary education—with over 25 teachers," Bulukutu said.
The recruitment plan aligns with Malawi's broader development goals, including the country's vision 2063, officials said.
