MZUZU, Malawi — Gazette Media has donated K500,000 to support the Nyika Media Club's upcoming Annual General Meeting scheduled for April 25, writes Tionge Hara.
During a presentation at the Grand Palace Hotel on Tuesday, Gazette Media consultant Macdonald Chapalapata said the contribution aligns with shared professional values.
"We come from the media, and Nyika Media Club promotes professionalism, which aligns with our interests," Chapalapata said.
The club's president, Feston Malekezo, expressed appreciation while noting significant financial challenges remain.
"We are grateful as a club for this," Malekezo said, adding that the AGM's K18.4 million budget still faces a substantial shortfall.
The annual meeting will review past activities and develop strategies for covering Malawi's September 16 general elections.
Chapalapata emphasized the importance of supporting accredited journalists to combat misinformation and "deep fakes" in the media landscape.
