MZUZU, Malawi— Jappie Mhango, treasurer-general of the Democratic Progressive Party, urged party members on Saturday to unite if they want to regain power and rule the country in 2025, writes Flates Banda.
Mhango spoke at a rally in Chibavi, Mzuzu, where supporters of former President Peter Mutharika gathered.
"We all want to return to government in 2025, but for this to happen, we must work together as a united front," Mhango said.
He said the party needs continuity, which is why he supports Mutharika to run again in 2025.
Christopher Mzomera Ngwira, the party's regional governor for the north, agreed and said the party needs to resume its development agenda, which is why Mutharika should be the country's president again in 2025.
"Mutharika can show Malawians what he has done for them because he developed the country and left all commodities at a lower price than they are now," Ngwira said.
He added that the party has many capable and educated young men who can run the country, but they do not need someone who wants to learn on the job, but rather someone with experience like Mutharika.
