Malawi: AfricaBrief, a Malawi-based fast-growing online news outlet, has been named one of the recipients of the Google News Initiative's News Equity Fund.

The fund was established as part of a global commitment by the US-based multinational technology firm headquartered in California to provide financial assistance to small and medium-sized news organisations that champion under-represented communities in their respective countries.

The fund is expected to benefit over 450 media outlets from 52 countries, according to Google News Initiative.

Winston Mwale, AfricaBrief's founder and editor-in-chief, announced the news to the audience on Facebook.
