LILONGWE, Malawi —The chief reporter of AfricaBrief, Tionge Hara, has been selected as one of 25 outstanding women journalists across Africa to participate in a prestigious training program focused on solutions journalism and rural economy reporting, writes Winston Mwale.
The training, part of the Solutions-Focused Rural Economy Reporting for Community Journalists (Audio & Digital) initiative, is set to begin Thursday, April 17, at 4 p.m. GMT+1.
Chosen from a highly competitive pool of 102 applicants from across the continent, the selected journalist stood out for her dedication to underreported stories, especially those from marginalized and underserved communities.
“We are thrilled to announce that you are one of 25 outstanding women journalists,” the program organizers wrote in the official notification.
“Your work stood out for its potential, your passion for rural economy reporting, and your desire to amplify underreported voices.”
Throughout the training, participants will explore the principles of solutions journalism, enhance their investigative skills, and engage with innovative data storytelling tools to better cover issues affecting rural communities.
The initiative underscores the rising importance of community-focused, impact-driven reporting across Africa and aims to strengthen local journalism capacity in addressing economic and social challenges.
